This is the long-awaited second edition of Kohei Kawatani's masterpiece photo book "Tofu-Knife," the first Japanese to win the Grand Prize at the Kassel Dummy Award 2020 in Germany and published in September 2021 by award supporter MAS Group (Turkey).
The index numbers, materials, and colors listed at the beginning of the book serve as indicators for classifying each work, and are a great idea that will have a major impact on the way we look at and understand photographs. This is an exhilarating photo book that combines strength and flexibility by breaking down the context that often clings to the images.
The Kassel Dummy Award receives nearly 400 submissions from all over the world every year, and is considered a pioneer among the many dummy book awards.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the selection process toured around 10 cities, and the vivid images that seemed to dispel the heavy atmosphere that pervades the world were highly praised.
The cover design was done by Kase Toru, who won the JAGDA New Designer Award 2021 for several works, including this one.
