"Hidden Fortress" compiles the creative activities of publisher/graphic designer Tim Coghlan, documented in 59 notebooks over 20 years (2006-2026). The first notebook, started in 2006, was filled with drawings, collages, and photographs. However, over time, his interest shifted from "drawing" to "combining collected images." Eventually, he began creating zines and books that compiled collected photographs and images, which led to the establishment of Knowledge Editions in 2012.
On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 7:50 AM, he launched the "930 Archive." This is an archival project that continuously collects images from the internet daily, based on the themes of "impact" and "the effects of events." This process of collecting, categorizing, and preserving images significantly influenced his notebook production from 2019 onwards. Materials gathered from books, comics, and newspapers, among other sources, formed many of the works within his notebooks.
The trial and error and ideas accumulated in these 59 notebooks ultimately led to "Hidden Fortress." In particular, the questions of "what constitutes impact" and "the power of collected images" became major themes. Cultures such as heavy metal, film, and comics, which have influenced Tim since he was six years old, are treated as important references in his work.
In essence, "Hidden Fortress" is the culmination of Tim Coghlan's 20 years of "collecting," "documenting," and "combining images," and an attempt to reveal his personal creative world, which he usually keeps private.
