We are pleased to announce "Wonder Bug," the first solo exhibition in Japan by Rob Cordiner, an artist based in Lutruwita, Tasmania, Australia.
Rob is known for running "Heavy Time Books" with Ed Davis and Todd Jordan, and is also a graphic artist who provides visuals for various brands. In 2018, he released an art book from commune Press for his series "MONSTERA," in which he places objects on tires, which received a great response.
This exhibition will be the first to showcase new signboard and screen print works that I am currently working on. In addition to the exhibited works, new merchandise will also be available for purchase at the venue. I look forward to seeing you there.
Easily
Distracted.
Always
Dreaming.
High
Definition.
I get distracted easily.
I always dream.
In high resolution.
The exhibition began when Rob was told by someone close to him that he might have ADHD, a developmental disorder characterized by inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity. After being diagnosed, he realized that he checked all the boxes. Many of the peculiarities he had felt his whole life were unique to him, but in fact, they were common traits for people with ADHD.
"Easily Distracted" was a statement on Rob's report card when he was in school, and "Always Dreaming in High Definition" is his personal take on the ADHD acronym.
He has a unique ability to not do things in an orderly manner and to concentrate. He also tends to have vivid dreams, and by organizing these fragments using the communication tool of graphic design, he is able to maintain peace of mind. Pieces of text, enigmatic numbers, iconic logos, catchy silhouettes...these are fresh memories that he has clearly seen, even amidst the vast amount of information he is exposed to every day. "Wonder Bug" is a statement about life lived in a dreamlike state.
