SHINKNOWNSUKE “Opaque Matters”
EXHIBITION |Saturday, August 27, 2022 - Sunday, September 11, 2022
SHINKNOWNSUKE "Opaque Issues"
Venue: Gallery Commune
We are pleased to present "Opaque Matters," an exhibition by SHINKNOWNSUKE, an artist known for his elusive and free-spirited style of expression. Following a pandemic unprecedented in human history, a flood of problems have become apparent. Looking particularly at Japan, the stagnation in all fields and the overwhelming distance between Japan and the rest of the world have become immense in recent years. The world, already uncertain about its future, which was touched upon in an exhibition two years ago, has become even more chaotic, and we are now living in a world where we feel a sense of irresistible resignation.
This exhibition will be the first to showcase 13 canvas works that express such a wide range of emotions. SHINKNOWNSUKE has now become an essential artist in Tokyo's cultural scene. While everyone is searching for ways to live strong lives without losing sight of themselves, SHINKNOWNSUKE also struggled to create these works. We hope you will come and see them.
After the exhibition "Unexpected Twist" held two years ago, I hoped that the world would move towards a more positive outlook, but the number of problems with an uncertain future is increasing day by day. I strongly connected the long-lasting mood of stagnation with my current feelings, and incorporated my feelings of dissatisfaction into my work.
