Lilian Martinez “PAPAYA EVERYDAY”

Lillian Martinez Exhibition "Papaya Everyday"

Venue: Gallery Commune

We will be hosting a mini-show titled "PAPAYA EVERYDAY" by Lillian Martinez, an artist who uses her work to raise questions about the history of human rights for women, particularly women of color, and who combines classical architectural elements with contemporary pop culture to create stories that fuse the past, present, and future. She is also the founder of the art brand bfgf.

Eight drawings, one silkscreen, and two litho prints will be on display for the first time. Also being released will be the ceramic mini-tray "Banana," created in collaboration between Lillian, Maruhiro, a porcelain manufacturer of Hasami ware, a Nagasaki craft, and gallery commune.

During the pandemic, I've been thinking about what brings me peace and joy.
Taking a walk, eating, drinking, reminiscing about travel memories, or going to the water.
My interests have changed, but the things I depict in this piece have been my forever loves since before the pandemic.
