Shiori Ikeno “Orb”
EXHIBITION |October 26th (Friday) - November 13th (Tuesday), 2018

Shiori Ikeno Photo Exhibition "Ove"
Opening: Friday, October 26th, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Venue: Gallery Commune
We will be holding a photo exhibition by photographer Shiori Ikeno, who has earned high praise for her passionate works that stem from her free-spirited individuality and who has traveled freely across a wide range of scenes, including fashion, commercials, music, and art.
She released her first hardcover photo book, "Ove," through commune Press at the NY Art Book Fair 2018 in September. This exhibition will primarily feature new works from the book, allowing viewers to experience the world of "Ove" in a three-dimensional way.
According to Ikeno, the title "Ove" is a coined word that came to her suddenly three years ago, combining various elements such as "Orb," which indicates a sphere, the Tamayura phenomenon that is said to appear in spirit photographs, and LOVE. As a child, she enjoyed watching TV specials on spirit photography, and even after she began taking photographs herself, she says she began to enjoy seeing something invisible accidentally appear in the photo.
"Orb" is a photo book that contains a collection of works that capture the accidental incongruity of everyday life, with elements that could be described as sci-fi or horror, as the photographer continues to release her shutter as if chasing a wandering fever. Perhaps it is this sense of incongruity that makes you feel as if you have landed on an unknown planet and are traveling, evoking thoughts reminiscent of "They Live," such as wondering if the dog, cat, and boy are actually aliens. Viewing this work while following the vibrant world of "Blade Runner" may also be an essential part of enjoying it.
This exhibition updates the image of Shiori Ikeno as a photographer to date, and as a rare artist who combines a strong pull with the determination to capture it, we hope you will enjoy her new world of work, which continues to evolve.
In addition to the works and the photo book "Ove," we plan to sell exclusive items at the venue. We look forward to seeing you there.
