onnacodomo + MATKA “Inconvenient Days”

Onnakodomo + Matoka "Unfree Days"

Venue: Gallery Commune

We will be holding a collaborative exhibition of works by the VJ unit "onnacodomo," which produces collages and video works, and "MATKA," which produces ceramics, accessories, stuffed toys, and more.
This exhibition will see the unveiling of original ceramic pieces that combine MATKA's forms with onnacodomo's collages for the first time, expressing a strange and cutting-edge world as "artworks that fit into everyday life/poetic ceramics" that are neither general goods nor fine art.
We look forward to seeing you all.

Formed in 2004, the unit currently consists of Noguchi Roka and Seki Yasuko. They perform live performances in which they create colorful images in real time under a video camera using a variety of everyday objects such as water, kitchen utensils, stationery, toys, and printed materials, without using any CGI or pre-recorded materials. In 2011, they appeared at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL as Buffalo Daughter's VJ, and in 2015, they appeared at Coachella as Ryan Hemsworth's VJ. Their recent works include the music video for Hei Tanaka's "Mei wa Nai" (No Meaning) and the opening and closing movies for J SPORTS' "Foot!".

MATKA | After working at an art production company that produced costumes and Muppets for use in advertisements and movies, MATKA is a sculptor who creates character prototypes and stuffed toys. She created the prototype for Jim Woodring's jumbo figures of "Pupshaw and Pushpaw." In 2008, he launched the stuffed toy and accessory brand "MATKA." Since 2017, she has been presenting ceramic works inspired by fashion that prioritize appearance over usability.
