Heather Benjamin “Burden of Blossom”
EXHIBITION |Saturday, June 1, 2019 - Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Opening: Saturday, June 1st, 18:00 - 20:00
*Artists will also be coming to Japan to participate.
Venue: Gallery Commune
This will be the first solo exhibition in Japan by Heather Benjamin, an artist who has gained acclaim for her powerful yet sensitive style that confronts taboos head-on with romance and catharsis.
"Burden of Blossom" will feature new paintings by Benjamin. At the heart of the exhibition will be a series of 23 works entitled "Conjure a Smoldering Rose I – XXIII," featuring a lonely cowgirl, a character that also appears in his recent works.
Cowgirl struggles with love as she grows up, struggling between extremes of existential consciousness, existing in a psychedelic emotional landscape in a constant state of ecstasy.
The new work attempts to create and reveal a better way of thinking about the world, a healthier, happier, more energetic and freer lifestyle, and calls for the need to acknowledge, understand and respect the issues we have experienced in order to move forward from past trauma, as they are an important part of shaping our lives and our personalities.
Benjamin's work has always been deeply diaristic and autobiographical, embodying the many facets of the artist's psyche, just as there are all the stages of womanhood.
In addition to the exhibited works, new merchandise will also be available for sale at the venue.
We look forward to seeing you all.
