Below is a statement from i GALLERY OSAKA regarding the background of this exhibition and the work of DDF.

This exhibition began when i GALLERY OSAKA reached out to gallery commune to discuss a new project. We had long admired their activities in introducing both domestic and international creative expressions through a unique lens, spanning diverse cultures such as art, publishing, fashion, and music. Through our dialogue, commune proposed a solo exhibition for DDF. As DDF was an artist we had also long been interested in, our perspectives naturally aligned, leading to the realization of this exhibition.

DDF's practice unfolds across different domains, including painting, drawing, screen printing, and collage, as well as graphic design and fashion. What drew us to DDF was not the diversity itself, but his approach of treating these mediums as equals—as part of the visual culture surrounding him—without making clear distinctions between them.

Every day, we see a vast number of images. Some remain in our memory, while others accumulate without us even being able to recall their origins. In DDF's work, such familiar images and fragments are cited, repeated, and collide within different layers, gradually drifting away from their original meanings and contexts.

What emerges is less of a single "finished" image, and more the process itself—a process where images meet, change their meaning, and are rearranged into a new visual language. DDF’s method of leaving the traces of production on the surface of the work, rather than erasing them, resonates with the modern sensation of how we receive, remember, and reinterpret images.

"Mankind is Crazy" follows the exhibition "Graphic Detail," held in Tokyo in March 2026. Along with reconfiguring works from the previous exhibition and adding new pieces, it incorporates new experiments in scale and texture, specifically curated for the i GALLERY OSAKA space.

To what extent does an image remain the same once we have seen it? As it is cited, layered, and placed into different contexts, its meaning and the memories associated with it are in constant flux. In this exhibition, we re-examine the very act of looking at images through the visual language that DDF has continuously accumulated and updated.
