Daniel David Freeman “Character Building” at Ace Hotel Kyoto

An exhibition by Daniel David Freeman, the first artist in the Ace Hotel's "Artist In Residence" program, for which commune will serve as co-curator from September 2024 to August 2025, has begun at the Ace Hotel Kyoto. The exhibition will run until Thursday, December 12th, so be sure to stop by.

There will also be a book/zine shelf in the lobby of the Ace Hotel Kyoto. We will be offering a lineup of books, mainly from commune Press, tailored to the exhibition. All books are available for purchase, so please check it out.

London-based Daniel David Freeman has produced a wide range of works, not only paintings and installations but also videos and animations, in a variety of settings including fashion, commercials and galleries.

This exhibition will feature a new series of meticulous pencil and colored pencil drawings, "Character Building." His abstract, comic-book-like images are presented as collages that question the meaning and importance of beauty in all areas of high and low culture.

Daniel David Freeman | Daniel David Freeman is a London-based artist specializing in experimental printmaking and fashion design. Influenced by subculture, outsider art, craft art, and the counter-culture of tattoo culture, his work spans a wide range of media, including paintings, installations, videos, animations, and limited edition apparel.
